What's keeping you safe is keeping you stuck.

Jun 03, 2019

What is keeping you safe? Is it a job you hate that feels stable? A body you don't love, but feels comfortable? Maybe its playing safe in your business because growing is unknown, and that in itself is scary.

We tend to hold tight to the things that make us feel safe, even if they aren't serving us. And often the thing that is keeping us safe, is really keeping us stuck.

This is a realization I came to about 6 months ago. It had been in the back of my mind for a while, not really feeling aligned to what I was doing as a fitness coach anymore, but it was a business I had put a lot of time and energy into, and leaving it felt impossible. Not just because of the financial security, but the predictability. The devil you know. But I kept feeling deep in the pit of my stomach that this was not meant for me anymore.

Have you ever felt that? This gut feeling that something just wasn't right? But the idea of making a change scared the crap out of you?

I believe we are given these gut feelings for a reason, and that we really should trust them more often. Our intuition is one of our strongest allies, and when it is telling you something, its probably best you listen.

For me, my gut was telling me that staying with my MLM was keeping me safe, but also keeping me small. That by choosing to remain in my comfy cage, I was keeping myself from my true purpose. And once I had that realization, it was like I couldn't get out fast enough. So I took action and I quit. I ensured all my customers had someone to go to, that my coaches would be taken care of, and I canceled my account.

And I instantly felt free.

That's the funny thing about cages. While they keep you safe, they also keep you small.

Here are 3 things you can take action on to break free of the cage you're in.

1. Get honest with yourself about why you are still in a situation that isn't serving you. This won't be a comfortable conversation with yourself, but dig deep and call out the comfort you get from staying small, and what you are truly afraid of when it comes to changing.

2. Ask yourself what you WANT. Sit with that and picture what your ideal situation would be. What is in your deepest heart that you desire. Ask yourself how you can start taking steps in that direction. Feel into what your ultimate purpose is for this season in your life.

3. Get to work. It all starts with the decision, even if it is a scary one. But once you decide that the pain of staying the same is worse than the fear of the unknown, you're on the edge of freedom. Make a plan to break free, and take action.

Where in your life are you keeping yourself small? Is that serving your ultimate purpose? Is the safety of your cage keeping you from reaching your true potential?

Maybe its time to take that leap, and grow your wings on the way down.
